"Rock'n'roll with a dash or two of murder." —Jeneva Rose, New York Times bestselling author
Becoming the star is easier when the rest of your band is dead...
All drummer Vienna Taylor ever wanted was to make music. If that came with fame, she'd take it—as long as her best friend, guitarist Madison Pierce, was sharing the spotlight and singing lead. And with their new all-female pop rock band gaining traction, soon everyone would hear their songs...
Except, on the way to an event, the Bittersweet's van careened off an icy mountain road during a blizzard—leaving one member dead and another severely injured.
In order to survive the frigid night, the rest took shelter in a nearby abandoned cabin. But Vienna's dreams devolved into a terrifying nightmare as, one by one, her fellow band members met a gruesome end...and Madison simply vanished in the night.
What really happened to the Bittersweet? Did Vienna's closest friend finally decide to take center stage on her own terms?
She doesn't want to believe it.
But guilty people run.

Vienna and Madison came from vastly different backgrounds when they first met in school, although they soon discovered a shared enthusiasm for '90s music. They began playing music together and found success performing small gigs as a duo called EmVee. After EmVee starts trending and moves to New York, Vienna pushes to recruit members and form a full band. Madison resists the change, but they go through with it anyway and change the band's name to Bittersweet, bringing even more success and a chance to celebrate with a trip. On their way to the celebration, the band's van crashes in a remote location during a snowstorm. The band is forced to find shelter, and not everyone will survive. With the band lost, wounded, and dying in the Catskills, who will make it? And why would one person simply disappear after such a tragic night? VERDICT For readers eagerly awaiting the return of Yellowjackets, this novel from McKinnon (The Revenge List) blends the musical highs of Taylor Jenkins Reid's Daisy Jones and the Six with the darkness of The Girls by Emma Cline in a twisty thriller that is hard to resist.--Kerri Copus

Vienna was the backbone of the Bittersweet, lending her rock-solid drumming talents, songwriting abilities, and natural leadership to the up-and-coming pop rock girl group. Vienna and her close friend Madison founded the group, expanding their duo into a quintet to gain a fuller sound and make a run at mainstream success. But as the Bittersweet got more popular, a tragic accident and a brutal snowstorm turned a road trip to the Catskills into a gruesome mystery. Vienna had always had her concerns about Madison's temper, but a little bit of jealousy couldn't have turned her against the entire group, could it? McKinnon (Never Coming Home, 2022) uses every page of this sweeping mystery to jump between timelines, showing readers how the group's dynamics and priorities changed with each new song, each new gig, and each new milestone, culminating in a major twist. Readers looking for something in the vein of Taylor Jenkins Reid's Daisy Jones & the Six (2019), Matthew Norman's Charm City Rocks (2023), and Emily Layden's Once More From The Top (2024) will appreciate the rock-and-roll intrigue and ripped-from-the-headlines feel of McKinnon's latest.
